As its impossible to ask in the pre-existing thread (closed) // sorry, I had a hard time following the ball in there.
from what I read: So (all instances of) damaged optics can always be discarded at the end of the turn - unless when also affected by "bailed out"? A tank counts as attacking even when having 0 (zero) attack die?

in scenario:
So a tank that got "bailed out" and hit by two "damaged optics" (-6 attk, is now at zero attk) and cant attack - so it keeps the damaged optics. now the tank loses sight of all/any enemy vehicles. it repairs its "bailed out". Has no targets: can he make an "empty" attack w/o any attack value to "clear its sights"/repair "damaged optics"? If not: can he look for a target, then make his empty attack and lose both instances of "damaged optics" w/o actually shooting nor needing to repair?

1. Correct, can't shoot because of Bailed Out. 2. Incorrect, can't shoot because no valid target. 3. Correct, during shooting, it builds and rolls an attack pool of zero dice. If Barkmann were on the tank, it would then also be able to shoot again after discarding every instance Damaged Optics. Furthermore: 4. Because Damaged Optics doesn't reference hits or crits in its clause, using Smoke Rounds (and not rolling dice), will also clear the crits, allowing you full functionality without the drawback, as it replaces the dice roll with an effect. 5. Because Barkmann, Bobby Woll, and Clever Loader reference hits and crits in their ability clauses, they must attempt to roll at least zero attack dice to use their abilities. Smoke Rounds precludes this by replacing your attack roll with an ability. Barkmann's first attack must be conventional if you want a second, but his second may use Smoke. Insult upon injury. Bobby Woll needs 1 cancelled hit or crit, so you would need at least 1 dice to have his effect work. also only effects on first attack so you cannot use Wolls ability on barkmanns try again shot
