just found out about this game...hope it is a winner...
point values.............
1 Tiger I should = 4 standard Sherman's 1 Panther should = 3 standard Sherman's

just saw that a Sherman is 15 pts. and a Panther 32...that is off...not as bad as Bolt Action though... should be more like a Sherman is 15 pts. and a Panther 42 pts. Edited by user Monday, March 21, 2016 12:21:38 PM(UTC)

Just hope the point value is balanced right for the game. Only GF9 game I've played is Firefly and that seemed pretty well tried and tested, am sure they have been giving Tanks the same due dilligence |

Game greater than fluff. Just because tank A may have been worth X amount more in real life doesn't mean that translates in to the game. I will trust GF9 on this one for now.

just saying...in real life...historically...2 Shermans would never take on a Panther...and 3 Shermans would not take on a Tiger...I know game balance and all that...but it would be nice to see a game that leans more toward history... although as I said...these point values are much better than Bolt Action Tank Battles...wow...I mean you can play a Tiger I , PzIV , Hunting Panther and Stug III....for the same cost as 6 Shermans...game over... looking forward to investing in this game...

It is worth baring in mind that the points value of a Sherman isn't just what it is worth against a Panther, it's the value it will use when facing all kinds of German kit, Russian or American kit too for those who don't mind blue on blue.
Not sure how it all works in Tanks, but those Shermans could fire smoke rounds in FoW, which is a bit of a pain. And the Sherman can (in FoW) kill a Panther by going round the side.
Also bear in mind that if the ratings are similar to FoW, that Firefly will make short work of the Panther from any angle.

The points value has to be based on a tank's in-game abilities, which cannot match exactly to the real world without an excessive level of detail, which would go completely counter to this game's design ethic, which is for fast simple gameplay. So long as Shermans outnumber Panthers, they've got it about right. The exact ratio does not need to be met.

all this game balance stuff vs. historical fact has bothered me in gaming for the past 50 years...I do not recall such a problem with Featherstone's rules...anyway...the game could have been designed with historical accuracy...modifying point values and abilities to portray such...and so 3 Shermans = 1 Panther , 4 Shermans = 1 Tiger...now that I think of it , surprised that GF9 did not do such because they would have sold more tanks...historical balance can be done...balance vs. historical is a crutch designers use to and have used to make things easier for them...
all that said...I am looking forward to the game...WWII tanks and you can play 3 or 4 games in an afternoon...wizard!!!
