Hi all,

I recently finished my Soviet armour; see the full album for detailed pictures. In real life, these tanks look quite dark as I intended.

Some notes:
- all markings are handpainted, except for the star on the SU-100
- added details left and right, mainly headlights and turret upgrades
- mud effect was created by using polyfilla powder + Burned Umber pigment

Currently working on the Soviet M10, which will have a Olive Drab paintjob.

Thanks! Its my first attempt in using pigments and such. Its a bit crude, and next time I'll dilute the polyfilla powder a bit more to have a lighter effect.

I also thought of painting the mud a bit to create darker patches of mud, which I still might do once I find out how to go about it.

Finished the Soviet M10! I used an olive drab paint-scheme and tried a more thinned mud effect.

What do you think? (Click image for larger view, or use album link in first post)

That's gorgeous work. Was the tank ID number hand painted or a transfer? I'm getting to my Soviets soon and some advice on either technique would be appreciated.

Thanks Kelvin, the numbers are painted on. With all the raised details it seemed a difficult task to put on decals there.

I usually search the internet for historical pictures of the same tank as a reference. Putting that up in front of me, I try to mimic the numbers while painting them on. For the unit markings I used Vallejo base coat of Sky Grey 70.989, finished with White Grey 70.993; always well thinned with water.

White itself was too strong a contrast, I found, so these are more muted colours. Practice makes perfect and after painting a few tanks, you will feel more confident. Remember that on most wartime photo's, the unit markings appear to be painted on by the crew themselves and are very crude an uneven. So you can't go wrong there!

Good luck and post your feats ;-)

Great!!!
What scheme will you use? The original dark green scheme, or some other variant??

I hope to see your tanks soon. You have very good painting skills, dude! :)
I need two Stuarts and a Pershing, but unfortunately I can´t find them in my local store. Are the Stuarts already on sale?

Cheers!
