This week we have a challenge! How would you build a 100 point Kampfgruppe Lueder platoon? We will showcase the most interesting lists with next week’s update.

I like the new cards, the general notion of combos is cool: take these together and get XY bonus! good way!

I would try this as a sniper build where the Panzer 3s hide offset behind the tigers, idealy giving every tanks cover, hopefully drawing fire to the soft-targets of the Pzs IIIs, while the Tigers remain unkillable and dish out punishment with 2/3 rerolls each/as needed. And iff the PZIIIs drop too low, pull them entirely behind the tigers and use only the escort ruling:

2 x Tiger 1 H (29)
2 x Defensive Driver (3)
2 x Schuerzen (1)
2 x Liquid Courage (1)
One Tank commanded by Hans Georg Lueder (6)

2 x Panzer III short (11)
Tiger Escort Tank (2)

The alternative, and a little more nasty (imo) would be a close combat brawler (Normandy Version):

Tiger 1 E (33) "The Brawler"
Michael Wittmann (11)
Bloodthirsty Gunner (3)
Racing Driver (2)
Kampfgruppe Lueder (2)
Tungsten Ammo (2)
Schuerzen (1)

Panzer III short (11) "Command Vehicle"
Tiger Escort Tank (2)
Hans Georg Lueder (6)
Hasty Loader (2)
Radio Coordinator (3)

Panzer III short (11) "The Shield"
Tiger Escort Tank (2)
Add-On Armor (5)
Defensive Driver (3)
Liquid Courage (1)

keep all three tanks in single file, the short barreled Panzer III as shield in the lead, the command tank with Lueder in the rear and place the tiger at movement 11 (!) in the middle and in front of the command Panzer III, so no one can get shots off on the command vehicle whilst using the lead vehicle for cover. move into short range and unleash 7/8 shots by the tiger at - 1/2 armor for the enemy (close range + possibly flank) while having both panzer IIIs not shoot but rather give the tiger a unheard off maximum of 5 re-rolls on his hitting. Also the command tank bumps the tiger up to shooting initiative 9.

That makes for a Tiger 1 with initiative 11/9 (move & shoot) with 7/8 attacks in short range and up to 5 re-rolls on those.... He will oneshot anything that cant run away, and even then him dishing out 5 shots at long range with so many re-rolls is crazy... And who can outrun ini 11 on a regular basis anyhow...

BTW/FYI: Tigers and Panzer IIIs were the official composition of Heavy tank battalions in the beginning of the war, where Panzer IIIs would be tasked with jobs tigers were unfit for: convoy guards, scouting, patrol runs and fighting infantry with their short barreled howitzers. only later The heavy battalions would get rid of the PzIII's for entire Tiger 1/2 platoons. What I'm saying is: I don't think this was Lueders significant choice or idea, but rather early tiger formations. Anyhow cool cards and cool synergy.

Bit off topic, but this paragraph makes no sense
"The next card to look at when building this platoon is Kampfgruppe Lueder. This card can boost your Tiger tank initiative very easily. For example, bring one Tiger and 5 Panzer III tanks and you that Tiger will be starting the game with a base of Initiative 10, 13 during the shooting step if Hans-Georg Lueder is in that tank."
Lueder card adds +3 in shooting phase, the Kampfgruppe card only modifies initiative in the moving phase. so taking into account the tanks mentioned in the article
Initiative 10 in movement phase
Initiative 8 in shooting phase due to Commander Lueder.

Will make a list when new tanks arrive

Edit:
That Kampfgruppe card is a pain to read, it could suggest only modifying Initiative in movement phase, or modifying Initiative for each round based on PZIII alive in the movement step

First I have to say that I really like the idea of themed list building. At first glance I think it will add an interesting facet to the game. I am looking forward to what you will have for the other nationalities as well.

In the spirit of themed lists, I decided to go with a more thematic approach to my list. (Full disclosure; since I typically focus on Russian forces, this list may be a total disaster.)

1.) Tiger @ 29pts
- Lueder @ 6pts
- Radio Coordinator @ 3pts
- Kampfgruppe Lueder @ 2pts

2.) Tiger @ 29pts
- Hans Von Luch @ 6pts
- Clever Hans @ 2pts

3.) Panzer III Short @ 11pts
- Quick Thinking @ 1pt

4.) Panzer III Short @ 11pts

But honestly taking lots of Panzer III just to hero hammer the Tiger sounds dull to me.
I might go with
Tiger 33 with Josef 6 and Kampfgruppe 2, Tool kit 1 (42)
Two Panzer III long 28, 2 hasty loader 4 (32)
Two Panzer III short 22, 2 racing driver 4 (26)
100pts and no super tanks

Are you calling my builds "dull"?

You could've just made your list and post it w/o posting complete nonsense criticism....

....Anyhow cool cards and cool synergy.

Whereas I do not agree with the "dull" comment; I think he was actually directing it at Andrew's list in the aforementioned article, where he talks about having 1 Tiger & 5 Panzer III's.
In all fairness he did also make a list.

I will say that I too am not sure how pertinent or helpful some of his other comments are in relation to this thread; but, people do have a right to their opinions.

I also agree that at first glance I too like the cards and the synergy.

Hopefully we can get back to the original topic of this thread. As a primarily Russian & sometimes British player I am curious to see what I may have to contend with in future German Lists.

Not the first time I have seen someone make this mistake in calculating initiative. (I might have done it once or twice myself.) Always a good time to see the look of realization dawn on your opponents face at the beginning of the game when they realize their mistake.
It is kind of like reaching for your wallet and realizing it is at home.

I like this list so far:

Tiger @ 29pts
- Wittmann @ 11 pts
- Kampfgruppe Lueder @ 2pts

Panzer III Long @ 14pts
- Tiger Escort @2 pts

Panzer III Long @ 14pts
- Tiger Escort @2 pts

Panzer III Short @ 11pts
- Tiger Escort @2 pts

Panzer III Short @ 11pts
- Tiger Escort @2 pts

Maximizes both Doctrine cards, int 10/6, 6 attack with enough re-rolls for maximum hits per turn with the tiger while the Panzer 3's are ablative armor

It doesn't say you have to include Lueder, but I guess I could go with this:

Tiger @ 29pts
- Wittmann @ 11 pts
- Kampfgruppe Lueder @ 2pts

Panzer III Short @ 11pts
- Lueder @ 6 pts
- Tiger Escort @2 pts

Panzer III Short @ 11pts
- Tiger Escort @2 pts

Panzer III Short @ 11pts
- Tiger Escort @2 pts

Panzer III Short @ 11pts
- Tiger Escort @2 pts

I would probably come up with a historically based list, but the Panzer IIIN is not available yet in the game. The early Tiger battalions often fielded the Panzer IIIL and the Panzer IIIN in their organization. The Panzer IIIN should have the artillery keyword. In all fairness though, the IIIN did frequently end up assigned in its own company within the early Tiger battalions, so the IIIL is a good choice....but the Panzer III variants with the short 50mm gun do not belong in these battalions.

Here is my quick effort....but I miss my Panzer IIIN. Between Palpa....er Lueger and the two Tiger escorts, the Tiger could potentially reroll all its attack dice every turn, even while moving. It would be initiative 8 in movement....better than Shermans and even equal to a Cromwell. It would be a 7 in the shooting phase and using radio coordinator, it could also make one of the Panzer III tanks a 7'initiative in the shooting phase. If the Panzer IIIN were available, then I would use the points to add an aggressive loader to the Tiger to boost its shooting initiative to 8. I would use any other points to perhaps add a cunning drive to the Tiger, and/or more radio coordinators to daisy chain that high shooting initiative to more tanks in the platoon

Tiger @ 29pts
- Kampfgruppe Lueder @2pts
- Emperor Hans Palpatine Lueger @6pts
- Radio Coordinator @3pts

Panzer III Long @ 14pts
- Tiger Escort @2 pts

Panzer III Long @ 14pts
- Tiger Escort @2 pts

Panzer III Long @ 14pts

Panzer III Long @ 14pts
