So here's the question, if I have a crew card like "racing driver", do I have to use the ability this on it all the time, or can I choose to not use it?

Are you first turn are you the ability to get plus 2 Movement Phase - 1 in the Shooting Phase.

Then in the second turn I don't use the ability, so I don't get the + 2 in the Movement Phase and I don't get the - 1 in the Shooting Phase, thus making the shooting better than before with using the card.

Being as the cards are hidden to start with, until you use them. I would have thought you can decide when you want to use them?

I would say that if you have the card then that crew member has been chosen for that specific ability and so it should be operational from the start.

In the example of "Racing Driver" the tank has chosen this mad-head to drive them round and he won't be abe to curb his enthusiasm for going hell for leather.

Just because one of the traits is a negative doesn't mean you don't use the card. You wouldn't choose NOT to use Michael Wittman until part way through the game but that's because both his traits are positive.

I can, however, see your point about not counting it until it is played and then it applies all the rest of the game, but I don't that's really in the spirit of the game.

Sorry if this sounds a bit bolshie, it's not meant to be.

While a card is hidden, they don't affect the tank.
Once they are revealed, they take effect for the rest of the game.

Cards are given the "eye" symbol if it has a significant drawback that can't be hidden.

I think rules wise until you reveal the card it is not 'on' but once the card is revealed it is 'on' - this makes sense as then you would be taking the negative with the positive - the cost of the card is often less than the pure positive bit by itself (if that makes sense).

Also it would not be easy to keep track of if you could switch it on and off I suppose.

HAAA written as Sean was confirming... sweet
